Graffis was a golf journalist, publisher and friend of golf until his death at age 95 in 1989. A columnist for the Chicago Times and Sun-Times, in 1922 he and his brother Joe founded The Chicago Golfer, which led to the nationally distributed Golfdom, the first periodical devoted to the business side of the game. He helped found the National Golf Foundation, associations for golf course superintendents and club managers, and was a founding member of the Golf Writers Association of America. He also worked with Tommy Armour on Armour's successful instruction book, “How to Play Your Best Golf All the Time."
