The founding director of the CDGA’s turfgrass program, Dr. Randy Kane was a leader in identifying problem turf and finding the solution through consultation with virtually every CDGA member course. With a doctorate from Cornell and a laboratory that originally included the office refrigerator, Kane was nicknamed “The Family Doctor” for his ability to diagnose problems on emergency house calls to courses, all accomplished without negative publicity to the course. Kane developed a comprehensive turf research program on the three-hole course behind Midwest Golf House, as well as an online turf information service.
