Renowned golf teacher DeDe Owens made her home at Cog Hill Golf and Country Club in Lemont for 22 years. Owens, an LPGA Master Professional and past president of the LPGA teaching division, won the National Golf Foundation's Herb Graffis Award in 1986 for her outstanding contribution to the game and the Ellen Griffin Rolex Award in 1997 for teaching the game. The co-author of seven books on golf instruction, DeDe was the 1993 and 1997 LPGA Teacher of the Year recipient and the Midwest teacher of the year five times. A former LPGA Tour player, Owens was named by Golf Magazine as one of the country's top 100 teachers, and was a member of the Golf Digest professional advisory staff, co-authoring seven instruction books and eight research articles. Owens earned her Masters degree in physical education from the University of North Carolina and her Doctorate in education from the University of Virginia. In 1996 she won the Distinguished Alumni Award from both universities.
